Job summary

Applications are invited for a Medical Laboratory Assistant post in our busy Immunology laboratory. The job is based at the New Cross Hospital and involves different shift patterns 7.30am - 3.30pm, 8.30am - 4.30pm, 10am - 6pm.

The Immunology laboratory service is part of the Black Country Pathology service which is a combination of the Pathology services based at Dudley, Sandwell & West Birmingham, Walsall and Wolverhampton.

The position offers an excellent opportunity to work within a modern, well equipped Immunology laboratory performing a wide range of diagnostic tests.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be an efficient and flexible member of the Immunology sample reception team providing a high quality diagnostic service through supporting the scientific and technical activities of the laboratory.

To undertake general Specimen Reception duties including collection, receipt, sorting, organisation and data entry for pathological specimens submitted to Immunology for investigation.

To manage the Immunology sample sorter - task targetted automation (TTA), sample tracking and organisation of samples to referral laboratories.

Take part in the specimen entry process using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) (Winpath). Ensure that all samples / request forms are correctly matched and fulfil the specimen acceptance criteria of the Directorate.

To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Directorate especially in relation to Health & Safety and Quality.

The successful candidate will be expected to work in a busy environment alongside a team of Consultants, Scientists and support staff.
