Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Cannock Eye Centre for an Band 5 Staff Nurse. The exciting aspect of the role is due to the fact that staff that work within the Cannock Eye Centre get the chance to work in a variety of different areas of Ophthalmology. This includes Ophthalmology outpatients, pre-op assessment and cataract surgery.
Working within a small team of nurses/practitioners, the department also offers a wide range of General outpatient Ophthalmology services providing high quality support for various outpatient activity, including - general ophthalmology clinics, minor procedures and Botox clinics.
Joining our exceptional, committed, caring and compassionate team will allow you to provide high quality, efficient pre, peri and post-operative care to all patients in both a clinic and theatre role as well as full support to patients attending for General Ophthalmology appointments.
The Trust has a 12 month Preceptorship programme for newly qualified and local development programmes for experienced staff which will provide you with support and guidance, regular staff engagement, feedback sessions and a supportive team ethos.
Main duties of the job
Based at Cannock Chase Hospital, The Cannock Eye Centre is a unique facility that provides the full surgical journey for patients in one specially designed department. All of our patients are seen in the new patient clinic before returning for pre-op assessments. Following this they return for surgery and then finally a post op visit to check everything has gone as planned. The uniqueness of the vacancy is that the Cannock Eye Centre Staff are given the opportunity to cover all these different areas in one multi skilled role.
Staff will learn how to provide support during pre and post-operative outpatient appointments, they will learn the skills and techniques for pre-op assessments and then finally they will get the opportunity to learn/provide all of the skills required for cataract surgery, including scrub skills, anaesthetic support and circulating skills.
