Job summary
We are looking to appoint a highly motivated Locum Consultant Intensivist with commitment to Intensive Care Medicine (CCT in ICM) within the Critical Care Services Directorate (CCSD). The applicant must hold a recognised higher qualification -FRCA and FFICM or equivalent.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants shall be joining a team of eight intensivists, providing care on the modern, well equipped, 28 bedded ICCU at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, a progressive 900+ bed DGH with over 8,000 staff.
About us
Current Integrated Critical Care Unit has General and Cardiac areas with 14 beds each and is looking to expand by a further 10 beds. The Consultant team comprises of seven Anaesthetist Intensivists and a Respiratory Physician providing cover for General ICU. The resident care is provided by two tiers of trainees/senior clinical fellows
The Critical Care Services Directorate has a team of 50 consultant anaesthetists/intensivists and has undergone expansion in regional cancer services as well as robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery & enhanced recovery. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust also provides clinical services to Cannock Chase Hospital with seven theatres where elective orthopaedic surgery is carried out. There is also consideration of re-locating some regional maternity services as well.

Initially these posts offer 10 PAs including 1.5 SPAs but this would be increased to 12 PAs to reflect any additional professional activity. Amongst the 8 intensivists there is a BSE and TOE trained consultant supported by 4 other consultants who are FICE trained. Opportunity may also be available to develop a SIM interest and the postgraduate centre has a 4 bedded SIM Ward. One consultant has completed a SIM Fellowship. The organisation is also developing a management programme for training future clinical and medical directors
