Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Children's Occupational Therapy Team at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. This will be to set up and deliver an occupational therapy service for a busy level 3 neonatal unit.

You will work closely with the neonatal staff and as part of a dynamic and innovative team of dedicated allied health professionals working on the unit.

We are looking for an occupational therapist with significant clinical experience in Paediatric OT who can demonstrate they can manage a caseload of patients within the neonatal service and well as managing to establish a new service. Situated in the Women's and Neonatal Centre of New Cross Hospital, The Neonatal Unit is a 26 bedded multi professional unit providing care for all babies who develop intensive, high dependency and special care needs health care needs, and is also one of the designated network cooling centres. The philosophy of the ward is to support the family in caring for their baby and family integrated care is promoted. The unit also has a separate transitional care ward.

The post holder will be supported by the lead AHPs in the West Midlands Neonatal Operational Delivery Network and the Trusts wider Children's Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy Team.

Main duties of the job

To provide occupational therapy assessment and support to the level 3 neonatal unit at New Cross Hospital.

To be responsible for the development, planning and leadership of the Occupational Therapy service for babies within the neonatal service, prioritising clinical needs to provide an effective, efficient service.

To take responsibility for own professional actions, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills to manage a caseload including highly complex and specialist cases, evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgment.

To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of prematurity, congenital conditions and difficulties at birth on both the individual and family unit. To work alongside other members of the MDT to optimise the development of the individual and functioning of the family unit, and to signpost to relevant services on discharge.

To deliver education as required for neonatal staff and families alongside the wider neonatal AHP team to support improving practice for staff and increasing participation and confidence for families.
