Applications are invited for a Consultant in Older Adult Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine to join the well-established Rehabilitation Medicine department currently based at West Park Hospital in Wolverhampton. This is a supra-district service which provides both neurological rehabilitation, Stroke rehabilitation and general rehabilitation for Older Adults. The catchment area includes patients from Wolverhampton CCG and other neighbouring CCGs.

The rehabilitation services based at West Park Hospital consist of. Specialist 10 bedded in-patient level 2b Neurological rehabilitation unit providing holistic, inter disciplinary, goal orientated, intensive rehabilitation to patients Multidisciplinary Spasticity clinics, 20 bedded Stroke Rehabilitation Ward 23 bedded General Rehabilitation ward for Older Adults The Spasticity services provide a variety of interventions including ultrasound guided Botulinum toxin injections, via hospital-based MDT clinics.

You will join a team of three full-time Consultants in Rehabilitation Medicine and a Consultant Geriatrician who work closely with the acute stroke, Older Adult Medicine and acute Neurology services based at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. The service is also supported by a full-time middle grade doctor and clinical fellows. West Park Hospital is a training unit approved by West Park Deanery and hence the new Consultant will have opportunity to participate in the training of the Registrars/ST grade doctors. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be on the GMC specialist register or be a speciality trainee within six months of their CCST date at the time of interview.

The Consultant will have dedicated secretarial support, an office including equipped required to fulfil their role.

General

1. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to provide a service in Older Adult Medicine and Rehabilitation2. there is no out of hours on call requirement for this post3. To provide cover for Consultant and Senior colleagues in respect of periods of leave.4. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take part in medical audit and research as appropriate.5. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.6. To ensure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in the care of your patients to be able to contact you when necessary.

Junior Medical Staff

7. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to play a full part in the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.

8. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for and devote time to teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required for junior medical staff.Management & Service Development

9. In conjunction with Divisional Manager, Consultant and Senior Colleagues, to take an active role in the management of the Division.

10. In conjunction with the Divisional Manager, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing & implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles and fit for the future.

11. In conjunction with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the department.

12. To observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trusts Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.Clinical Governance

13. In conjunction with Consultant colleagues, to ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met.Health & Safety
