Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and creative team focused on delivering quality improvements and transformational change across the organisation. You will have the opportunity to further develop your skills and knowledge in QI methodology whilst supporting a Clinical Division and working closely with clinical teams and other staff groups across our Trust. You will be part of the wider Quality Improvement Team which includes Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.This role offers a variety of opportunities including advising and assisting teams with the design and planning of quality improvement projects, coaching teams and measuring their successes, together with promoting the QSIR (Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign) methodology and supporting the development of a QI culture across the organisation.You will be part of delivering QSIR training, the development and facilitation of Divisional and Directorate Away Days and other events, alongside supporting the implementation of QI methodologies within teams and as part of Trust-wide initiatives.

You should have knowledge of, and experience in, applying QI methodology such as QSIR, Lean or other QI approaches and be a strong advocate for QI. Further training and development will be provided however, previous experience of leading quality improvements in your area of work is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertake training to develop and maintain skills in quality improvement methodology. This will include achieving a qualification in the NHS Quality Improvement programme - Quality Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) to achieve QSIR college accreditation
  • Contribute to the delivery of QSIR and other QI training for the organisation
  • Provide expert QI coaching to operational improvement leaders
  • Provide practical support to improvement leaders and their teams, contributing to the facilitation of QI exercises
  • Ensuring QI support for projects is aligned with the Trust's quality, safety and performance priorities
  • Meet regularly with the divisional leadership team to agree projects for support, report on progress and facilitate the oversight and support for improvement work
  • Contribute to the facilitation of team events/away days
  • Work closely with key stakeholders including external partners to facilitate cross boundary collaboration
  • Promote the use of best practice and ensure project management and QI skills are transferred through the Trust
  • Help teams imbed a QI culture and structure and encourage them to use QI tools and techniques to bring about successful change

  • Use project management skills to support teams to manage their improvement work
  • Promote and facilitate the analysis and presentation of data to identify service improvement priorities and understand the impact of improvement efforts.
  • Deliver quality improvement training to new and established staff at all levels in a variety of formats including
    • QSIR fundamentals (overview of quality improvement theory and approaches)
    • QSIR Practitioner (in depth quality improvement training for those actively involved in quality improvement work)
    • Targeted training sessions for particular groups and/or on particular aspects of QI
    • Virtual QI training
    • As part of project support for teams engaged in quality improvement work
  • Use and promote a consistent quality improvement approach to service improvement at all levels from ward to board.
  • Encourage the use of reflection using recognised quality improvement tools in order to develop a learning culture e.g. Lessons learnt from Covid-19 pandemic, critical incidents and staff and patient feedback.
  • Build good relationships within the wider Trust and beyond, by engaging clinicians, managers, staff and other key stakeholders and partners
  • Develop the QI monitoring, reporting and evaluation process and ensure routine production of programme reporting outputs and associated governance reports
  • Work closely with the other QI team members to develop the programme plan, identify resource requirements, investment needs, milestones, owners, KPIs, engagement and communication strategies
