Job summary

Due to maternity leave, a temporary vacancy has arisen for an optometrist to join the hospital optometry team at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary. The team consists of 11 Optometrists, an ECLO & 2 optometry assistants.

Duties cover a varied case-load including core optometry clinics in adult & paediatric refraction and low vision.

The post will be based at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary.

The working environment is busy, with a challenging caseload, with a need to combine high standards of clinical practice & good time management for clinical & non-clinical activities.

The successful applicant for a band 6 post will demonstrate an aptitude for working in a demanding hospital setting, managing a high volume of throughput in core optometry clinics such as refraction & low vision. They will need to show an ability to take on advice & instruction.

This would be an ideal opportunity for someone to follow on from their pre-registration year, or who is experienced in community work and is keen to gain experience & establish themselves in a hospital based role, whilst still having opportunity to work in community practice, or other optometric settings as they wish.

The working pattern will need to fit the needs of the service but it is possible that there can be some negotiation with the successful applicant.

Please contact Claire Parkes for an informal discussion if you are interested in the role and have any questions.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the line manager in order to deliver a comprehensive range of optometric services to the highest standards of quality and care.

Participation in the delivery of complex specialist optometric services and a comprehensive range of core optometric services that meet the changing needs of the Directorate and other outside agencies

Working within core optometry clinics. These will include, but may not be limited to; complex adult refraction, paediatric refraction and low vision.
