Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow to commence as soon as possible; appointments are for a 1 year fixed term period, with an option to extend.
Although the posts are non-training grade, there will be direct Consultant supervision and an educational programme including annual appraisal, 4-monthly supervisor meetings, access to an e-portfolio and relevant study leave. There will be a specific programme of protected teaching and a wide range of other clinical training activities.
Postholders are encouraged to undertake audit and quality improvement projects. They will also be supported to pursue Membership examinations in their chosen specialty. There will be options to develop formal teaching or research
Main duties of the job
The post offers excellent experience in General Surgery within the sub specialty of vascular services and would be suitable for someone who has completed Basic Surgical Training and is looking for an opportunity to widen their experience prior to moving on to Higher Surgical Training.
Opportunities exist within the Directorate for postholders to conduct clinical research . Furthermore the posts would be ideal for anyone wishing to undertake further academic study, eg MsC/B.Ed and protected study time can be built in the job plan accordingly.

- The weekly timetable will include ward rounds, theatre sessions and outpatients clinics along with audit/surgical meetings once per week,
- Participation on the Middle Grade on-call rota
- Continuing care of patients on the ward during the day
- Perform duties in unforeseen or emergency circumstances at the request of the consultant
- Requirement for involvement in teaching, especially under-graduates
- Cover the absence of colleagues, eg annual leave, study leave
The successful candidate will be responsible for the support of vascular services at RWT including vascular outpatients and day case theatres, with good exposure to renal access and endovenous procedures. A whole day per week is allocated to major vascular operating at Russells Hall to gain exposure to the full range of major vascular procedures (including AAA, carotid and lower limb revascularisation).
Emergency vascular experience is provided through a 1:8 out of hours vascular middle grade rota and a 1:8 emergency day time cover at Russells Hall.
A major role is to support the Consultants and Vascular Nurse Specialists with timely vascular reviews of inpatient referrals admitted under other specialities including liaising with the Hub if transfer to the Hub is required.
Once sufficient clinical experience has been obtained, there may be the opportunity of performing more independent outpatient and day case theatre activities under indirect supervision.
