Job summary

An exciting position has become free to provide the Trust with an electrical bias technical person who can meet the wide range of technical skills required to fulfil this role as a multiskilled maintenance engineer capable of meeting the modern challenges associated with working at a busy Acute Hospital Trust.

The post holder will be based at Cannock Chase Hospital which is operated by the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and may require working across all properties if/when required. A current valid driving licence is required allowing the post holder to commute to all properties within the trust to all levels as required within the Trust including contract staff.

Main duties of the job

Estates Maintenance Worker Specialists are expected to work across all engineering disciplines and are trained wider than their core skills and acquired elements of electrical, mechanical, building skills and have reached a level of flexibility and competence which enables them to achieve and apply their ability where required to resolve complex technical issues performing at high level across the summary duties listed below.

Job responsibilities

He/she will demonstrate a good knowledge of statutory legislation, health and safety legislation and workshop safety practices as this relates to the specific duties of the post and to the safety of other staff and members of the public. He/she shall be prepared to undertake additional training in order to fulfil the requirements of the post, satisfy new regulations/legislation or to further develop the duties.

He/she will be able to provide and receive complex technical and safety information across a comprehensive range of engineering and building services working closely with the wider estates team, help line and contract services to minimise breakdown repair times, identify faulty components or equipment and keep service users informed of issues and likely time for repair or if alternative arrangements are needed.

Utilise analytical judgement to interpret / diagnose and repair complex technical faults on a variety of complex multi-faceted engineering systems and equipment across all spectrums of the Trust Estates.

Design, Plan and organise complex maintenance activities including new works minimising the effect on patient care in coordination with direct and indirect staff inclusive of unsupervised routine and complex maintenance, analysis, solution finding and repair work, assessing safety situations, analysis and diagnosis of faults on a range of complex multifaceted building services / Trusts physical assets.

He/she will have highly developed physical skills / accuracy to carry out duties and work with relevant tools (power or hand) and sophisticated diagnostic and test equipment in order to evaluate system / equipment performance and to record and amend relevant drawings and data through the use of spreadsheets and relevant software databases.

He/she will complete maintenance work on physical assets and take on roles in line with their bias such as Approved / Competent/Responsible Person (AP/CP/RP) duties as defined within trust policy.

Implements and enforces existing systems and policies and actively make suggestions to improve and develop the systems in place. He/she will generate test forms, compile results, archive and store all data records and documents in hard and electronic forms as required. Will also actively participate within the scope of the departments appraisal system in order to actively pursue and assist career progression.

Operate within the constraints of formal Permit to Work Systems where the criticality of the plant / system or the safety aspects of the proposed work is such that written operating procedures / control methods need to be established and agreed prior to the commencement of work to ensure the safety of all involved and Trust property and equipment.
