Job summary

Do you have a passion for TB nursing and the skills required make a difference to patients accessing the TB service? An opportunity to join the growing and dynamic TB Nursing Team at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Including the Outreach worker and administrative staff to provide the TB Nursing service to the City of Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire area

You will support the service in actively managing positive TB cases and their contacts and supporting them to complete their treatment, seeking cases of latent TB and run nurse led clinics managing subsequent positives, supporting TB incidents.

You will need to demonstrate excellent leadership skills with a sound knowledge base and possess the experience and skills required to positively contribute to the TB team and TB caseloads. The successful candidate will ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent and have at least 3 years post qualification nursing experience. It is essential that you have the ability to work collaboratively at all levels and across disciplines and agencies.

You will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with colleagues, patients, children and young people, and those from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. You must be able to work autonomously with minimum medical supervision ensuring the complex physical, psychological and social needs of individuals being investigated or treated for tuberculosis are met.

Main duties of the job

You will be highly motivated, conscientious and an organised nurse with the ability to be efficient in a busy clinical environment. An individual who is enthusiastic about improving patient care and is willing to go the extra mile to ensure our patients' receive the highest quality care. You will be joining a proactive and supportive team who work closely with the lead TB Consultants and pride themselves on their high quality care. Our job would provide predictable weekday hours and could be tailored to provide flexibility within the week if required.

You will be expected to travel and engage with our local community and support the management of our patients within their homes, clinics and also offering specialist support at our acute hospital New Cross Hospital.

As part of a team caring for TB patients you will exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care than at initial registration

The post holder will be able to:

Care for patients with suspected or diagnosed TB, supported by the TB team

Support the three local prisons.

Take responsibility for managing BCG clinics and contact screening clinics

Make differential diagnosis within level of competence, supported by the TB team

Plan and provide treatment in collaboration with others as appropriate, to include monitoring of treatment as well as managing Directly Observed Therapy regimens.

Work independently, but also as part as a multi-disciplinary team

Use their knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations, such as a chest X-ray.

Ensure the provision of continuity of care including follow up visits, which may be in patients homes, community clinics etc.
