Job summary
New Cross Hospital have an exciting opportunity of a Consultant Clinical Nurse Role within our Colorectal department. We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic individual to lead our Colorectal Nursing team.
We are looking for an experienced and innovative colorectal nurse to join our nursing team and support the Fast track diagnostic service for suspected lower gastro-intestinal cancers. There is also an opportunity to develop services to support the follow up of patients treated for a diagnosed cancer, as well as support and develop our pelvic floor and LGI diagnostic physiology aspect of the service.
The role is 50/50 clinical/research and service improvement . Working to support the further development of nurse-led services for patients who are receiving, or have received treatment for a confirmed cancer diagnosis, working in partnership with the multi-professional team.

Main duties of the job
The Consultant Nurse will lead at local, regional and national initiatives such as West Midlands Cancer Peer Review, Association of Coloproctology, The Association of Stoma Care Nurses, Chair for the West Midlands Colorectal Nursing Group and other national events such as the British Journal of Nursing, to promote the best interest of the service and the Trust.
Provide highly specialist clinical knowledge and skills to ensure patients referred to the Faster Diagnostic service with suspected colorectal cancer, and those with a confirmed cancer diagnosis, receive expert care and management appropriate to their needs.
Provide expert clinical skills for the review and assessment of patients, developing differential diagnoses using advanced assessment skills & assessing their suitability for appropriate diagnostic investigations and cancer treatment.
Support compliance against the 28d and 62d cancer waiting times (CWT) guidance for the Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) suspected cancer pathway.
Identify areas for further development and lead on appropriate change using current evidence and research to evaluate outcomes.
Be a role model and expert resource to the multi-professional team, supporting further education and training of the MDT
Explore opportunities for undertaking research within the specialist area, to further local practice and own development
Develop links locally, nationally and internationally to support benchmarking and service development opportunities
