Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic & motivated CCAB Qualified Accountant to join the finance team to support our Corporate Team and Estates and Facilities Division. You will be a self-motivated, pro-active individual with strong time management & organisational skills.

You will provide a comprehensive financial partnering role to the services, including support around budget setting, financial reporting, service redesign & savings programmes, business case & tender response development, as well as providing value through financial advice & challenge.

The department is undergoing an ambitious change programme which includes a implemented new finance & procurement system, modernising & removing paper based systems. The department is also the Trust champions for agile working, which at RWT means you may be working within the finance department, within service areas & other locations which may include home working.

Main duties of the job

The DFM supervises a finance team who are responsible for financial advice, financial information & other financial input (e.g. business planning, service level agreements, costing & market) to a range of corporate & support services. In addition they are responsible for co-ordinating specific Trust-wide projects where the work cannot be divided into separate teams due to the necessity for a single & consistent output & approach.

To ensure that all information provided by the team is of a high professional standard, is timely & accurate &that correct financial principles are adhered to.

To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the team, assisting the Clinical Finance Manager in recruitment selection, appraisals, personal development, sickness absence policy & disciplinary issues, ensuring Trust HR policies are adhered to.

To succeed in this role, you will have a proven track record of delivery & have professional credibility within senior management.

Essential

  • Fully qualified CCAB Accountant.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Experience/Skills

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within a senior management accounts role.
  • Ability to lead in business planning and budget setting processes.
  • Experience of supervising day to day workload of staff, with the ability to lead and motivate.
  • Work entirely under own initiative and prioritise own and team's workload.
  • Must be computer literate with previous experience of Microsoft office (or similar) and advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Good experience of computerised ledger packages, and their application.
  • High level of analytical skills and ability to process complex financial data.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly and to assess the implications of those decisions; based on best information available. Ability to make judgements when opinions conflict and in absence of existing precedence.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working within a management accounts role within the NHS.
  • Experience in setting budgets for a complex range of services.
  • Experience of managing a finance team, including recruitment, performance, appraisals etc.
  • Able to use VBA/SQL or experience in developing finance systems.
  • Development of computerised ledger packages (or similar) to improve efficiency or ways of working.
