We have an exciting opportunity to join our Radiotherapy Physics sections as a Clinical Technologist/Dosimetrist.
Based at the purpose built Deanesly Cancer Centre, New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton.
You will be working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team of experienced Physicists and technologists providing radiotherapy physics support to radiotherapy.
Participation in mould room and treatment planning will be on rota basis.
Main duties of the job
The clinical technologist will work mainly within the treatment planning and mould room groups, and will be expected to carry out a broad range of procedures. In treatment planning this will include production of a broad range of treatment plans, some of which may be complex. In the mould room responsibilities will include patient procedures such as the taking of impressions, and production of individual patient immobilisation devices and other treatment accessories. A substantial skill level will be expected in carrying out these duties.
The post will involve direct patient contact and will require a sensitive approach to the patients needs and anawareness of the confidential nature of patients information.

- To be managerially and technically responsible to the Chief Clinical Technologist (Line Manager Radiotherapy Treatment Planning), with overall responsibility to the Consultant Physicist (Radiotherapy Physics) and through them to the Head of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department.- To take part in a work rota that will include duties in the Radiotherapy Physics and Mould Room sections of the department. The appropriate distribution of duties to be determined by the Chief Clinical Technologist.- To be aware of the clinical responsibilities of the sections and the need to maintain constructive relationships with clinical users. To be clinically responsible to the appropriate medical consultant for technicalprocedures carried out directly on patients.- To carry out a broad range of treatment planning and mould room procedures, some of which may be complex, and to be involved in direct patient contact, where skill and sensitivity will be essential.- To continue to develop skills and experience in treatment planning and mould room procedures- To assist in carrying out quality assurance tests on the treatment planning computer, the linear accelerators, and dosimetry equipment.- To be aware of the need to achieve skills in a demanding range of treatment planning and mould room procedures with minimum supervision by more senior technical staff.- To carry out all duties that involve direct patient contact in a sympathetic and considerate manner, immediately reporting any clinical problems to the appropriate Chief Clinical Technologist- To conform to safe working practices in the work area, particularly with regard to patient and staff safety.- To participate in training staff who may be working within the group.- To assist in the maintenance of records and any other administrative duties that may be required.- To demonstrate a flexible approach to the needs of the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department.- To be available for on-call and overtime work as necessary.- To conform to safe working practices, and departmental policies and procedures.- To complete CPD to the relevant required standard.- To undertake any other duties which may be required by the Consultant Physicist (Radiotherapy Physics) or the Head of Department and which are appropriate to the post.- This Job Description may be reviewed periodically in the light of developing work requirements.
