Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Engineering Technician within our Orthotic Research and Locomotor Assessment Unit.
To help potential applicants, we plan to hold an informal "open evening" on Tuesday 10th March for anyone interested in learning more about this unique role and workplace. Starting at 17:30 in building 112, we will provide a guided tour of the department, talk about the role in more detail and answer any questions you might have. The evening should last approximately 60 minutes.
To help us manage the evening, we would be grateful if you could let us know if you plan to attend by telephoning or emailing Keith Miller on 01691 404351 or kmiller10@nhs.net in advance.
Main duties of the job
The role involves training an engineering technician to provide rehabilitation engineering and medical device support services both at the hospital, in the community and beyond. The postholder will play a key role in the design, manufacture, monitoring and maintenance of orthotic devices and other assistive technologies that are used to enhance the treatment of severely disabled patients and will involve contact with patients, including children who have moderate to severe mobility disabilities.
The post-holder will already hold BTEC National Certificate/Diploma or City & Guilds in an engineering subject or through their application demonstrates an equivalent combination of training and experience within mechanical engineering. It would also be desirable to have an aptitude for electronics/computing. Such a background will provide the basis for a programme of personal development once in post to gain the wider expertise necessary to fulfil the role.
We are seeking a highly compassionate individual who will work sensitively and effectively with patients with disabling conditions, as part of a multi-professional team.
Under current Home Office Immigration Rules, this role does not meet the UK Visas and Immigration criteria and the position is not therefore eligible for skilled worker sponsorship. Applications from candidates that require skilled worker sponsorship will NOT be shortlisted.
