General Medicine Therapy Team Lead

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 06 May 2024

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and suitably experienced Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to lead our general medicine therapy team on a fixed term (maternity leave cover) basis. This is a full time role, however we might be able to consider part time hours or a job share.

The Team Leader will be the line manager of the general medicine therapy team and deal with ESR, E-roster and job planning for the team. They will manage the team sickness absence, study leave, training - including both professional and Statutory/Mandatory forms.

The team lead will hold a clinical caseload as a registered Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist that is appropriate to their knowledge skills and experience as a practicing clinician.

The post holder will have excellent team working skills. Management of your own caseload is essential and therefore you must have the ability to work on your own initiative. Flexibility in your approach is expected, all teams collaborate across the service and support each other in delivering the best possible service to our patients from our available resources in line with our Trust values of caring for patients, staff and finances.

The current post-holder of the Team Lead on Sheldon ward is an Occupational Therapist and whilst this gives the team a correct balance of clinical time across the two professions the post is open to both Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists holding current HCPC registration with either profession.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake a team lead role for the organisation, co-ordination, delivery and evaluation of the therapy service to ensure efficient and effective provision of service.
  • To be responsible for the deployment, supervision and development of all staff within the team.
  • To undertake a clinical caseload to a high professional standard using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience. To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated for patients with complex physical and psychological conditions, and maintain comprehensive records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To encourage professional, clinical and personal development of all team members and ensure a cohesive service by close co-operation with colleagues.
  • To act as a source of expertise on the management of therapy patients and provide an advanced advisory service to patients, senior therapists, other health care professionals, G.P.s and Consultants.
  • To assist the Therapy Manager in forward planning and development of the service and by ensuring accurate collection of data and their collation and evaluation.
