Job summary

The Trust has invested in a comprehensive EPR system that is part of the wider ICS digital roadmap. Electronic prescribing and associated pharmacy digital systems is an integral part of this development. The pharmacy department is highly valued by the Trust and digital leadership team and this post is essential to the success of the whole EPR project.

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic, and self-motivated pharmacist to join our team. Our friendly department provides an environment that supports innovation, learning, team working and encourages individuals to reach their full potential. As a department we continually aim to improve patient care and to promote professional development. We are a forward-thinking team and foster good relationships with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) and patients. We provide ward-based care, pharmacist clinics and have an extensive team of independent pharmacist prescribers.Support for post graduate training and development is available and attendance at national conferences is encouraged.

The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership across the MDT. They will possess a good understanding of the digital demands of the projects and demonstrate project management experience. The post holder will be required to work Saturdays and Bank Holiday in the dispensary on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job

Electronic Prescribing System Development and Maintenance

  • Develop, implement and maintain the Trust-wide electronic prescribing and medication administration system applying the knowledge, skills and training of a highly specialist pharmacist.
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy, suitability and safety of prescribing, administration and pharmacy-related pathways within the electronic patient record.
  • Work with the other clinical analysts and technical staff to maintain and develop the prescribing elements of the Electronic Patient Record.
  • Acquire and apply the technical skills necessary to build the prescribing pathways in agreement with clinicians. This requires prolonged periods of concentration when coding and testing pathways.
  • Maintain the pharmacy and prescribing-related pathways within the electronic patient record. n of changes and enhancements to the electronic prescribing system.
  • Co-ordinate, strategically plan and deliver when needed specialist training and teaching sessions to all users of the EPMA system, checking understanding and adapting training methods where necessary.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the external software suppliers and internal IM&T department to communicate issues and risks as they are foreseen and/or arise.
  • Support staff who are distressed or who challenge the changes to service as a result of EPMA.

  2. Provide leadership and professional judgement to clinicians and nursing staff on how the EPMA system can be best adapted to deliver a safe prescribing and administration framework within the EPMA system.
  3. Provide leadership and direction on digital innovation with all aspects of medicines management within Pharmacy, across RJAH and the ICS where appropriate.

  5. Ongoing development of reporting tools to optimise outcomes from the EPMA system.
