Job summary
An opportunity has arisen within The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) NHS Foundation Trust for a Locum Consultant in Veterans Lower Limb Arthroplasty. This is a new full-time post for an initial period of 6 months, followed by the possibility of a further 6 months extension. The post will complement the existing Consultants performing Veterans Arthroplasty Surgery at Oswestry.
Main duties of the job
The main duties and responsibilities of the post are concerned with the management of Veteran arthroplasty patients throughout the hospital. The successful candidate will work as part of the Veterans team and attend the monthly Veterans board meeting. They will liaise with patients, and GPs, both prior to, and after their admission. They will perform new patients' clinics; follow up clinics and pre-operative clinics as well as working independently in theatre. They will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management of Veteran inpatients and will perform a daily ward round.

Essential
- Full GMC Registration with license to practice and with no restrictions on practice.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Trauma and Orthopaedics, via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview.
- CESR or European Community Rights Primary Medical Degree FRCS (Tr&Orth) (or Equivalent
- Current ATLS Certification
Experience and specialist knowledge
Essential
- Currently practicing with at least 3 years of arthroplasty experience.
- Demonstration of a reasonable knowledge of knee and hip arthroplasty plus evidence of independent practice in theatres and outpatients for all levels of arthroplasty and revision knee arthroplasty
- To have at least 18 months UK experience of Veterans arthroplasty.
- To have performed military service.
- To have evidence of working with military welfare services and charities
- Consolidated experience (Demonstrable competence) in managing Veteran orthopaedic patients.
