An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and well organised individual to join the Knowledge and Learning Team as a Band 5 Apprenticeship and Widening Participation Lead at RJAH.

We are looking for a highly motivated, professional and well organised individual who has the required skills and knowledge to ensure the successful delivery and management of Apprenticeships and Widening Participation into the NHS. The post holder will promote, implement and manage routes into NHS careers, such as Work Experience, T Levels and Apprenticeship working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the Knowledge & Learning Hub you will work across the Trust to provide robust management and coordination of apprenticeship processes and programmes, and lead on a common process for apprenticeship. Working with education providers, learners and stakeholders to support and develop the RJAH apprenticeship and work experience programmes, and working collaboratively with colleagues to advise and deliver on career development and appropriate apprenticeship pathways.

Job responsibilities

Working as part of the Knowledge & Learning Hub the postholder will work across the Trust to provide robust management and coordination of apprenticeship processes and programmes, and lead on a common process for apprenticeship. The post holder will work with education providers, learners and stakeholders to support and develop the RJAH apprenticeship and work experience programmes, working collaboratively with colleagues to advise and deliver on career development and appropriate apprenticeship pathways.

Duties and Responsibilities

Apprenticeships

  • To develop, formalise and follow the process for managing apprenticeship data in accordance with the digital accounts and related spreadsheets and databases.
  • To prepare apprenticeship data returns for appropriate authorities bodies (e.g. Health Education England/National Apprenticeship Service).
  • Design and prepare an apprenticeship demand and forecasting needs analysis.
  • Compile apprenticeship update reports for the RJAH People and Culture Committee and other relevant steering groups to monitor performance and identify risks.
  • Oversee all apprenticeship placements and ensure an appropriate learning environment and support is available for all apprenticeships.
  • Be the lead liaison regarding apprenticeship with education providers, RJAH and the apprentice.
  • Provide support for all Trust apprentices, line managers and troubleshoot as required.
  • Work in partnership with placement leads for other programmes e.g. Trainee Nurse Associate/Nurse Associate.
  • Responsible for recruitment of internal and external apprentices in partnership with the relevant host teams.
  • Support the widening participation agenda, through development of marketing and promoting the apprenticeship route, attending careers events in schools and colleges.
  • To collect, analyse and produce reports from statistical information relating to learner progress and achievement and raise any issues that may adversely affect the contract.
  • Maintain a database and produce reports and information on the apprenticeship levy spend.
  • Provide information and advice on the Levy/SFA contract taking into account any communication barriers which my hinder process when dealing with difficult or complex issues.
  • Ensure with apprentices managers that all learners files and documentation comply with funding requirements and evidence is prepared for trust reports or HEE/Levy audits.
  • To be the main point of contact for all apprenticeships.
  • To provide pastoral care to support students during the period of their apprenticeship.
  • Ensure that all regulatory Health and Safety standards related to programmes are maintained.
  • To represent the Trust regarding apprenticeships at any ICB events or meetings.
  • Ensure all apprenticeship vacancies are advertised/marketed appropriately.
  • To manage and co-ordinate apprenticeship recruitment events and attend other Trust recruitment events to promote apprenticeships.
  • To liaise with and interact with all apprenticeship learner and line managers as and when required, exchanging and handling information that may be confidential, contentious and/or sensitive.
  • Effectively communication any difficulties or concerns connected with assessing staff competency to the individual apprentice and the line manager.
  • Manage and maintain accurate, contemporaneous and complete records as required for each apprenticeship programme.
  • Develop and implement any apprenticeship policies and processed for existing staff and young apprenticeship.
  • To implement and manage any national guidance regarding apprenticeship and work experience.
  • Keep abreast of regional and national changes in relation to apprenticeships.
  • Embed apprenticeships as a developmental tool to help current staff gain new knowledge and skills to provide individual career pathways and develop teams.
  • Work with learners and their line manager to overcome any barriers that may impede their ability to participate in development opportunities. Including, but not limited to, sign posting to additional learning support; (i.e., functional skills).

Work Experience/Widening Participation

  • Engage with internal stakeholders in the Trust by delivering Work Experience programmes and communicate and promote the benefits of work experience.
  • To co-ordinate and organise all Trust work experience programmes and placements liaising with schools and colleges and ensuring all appropriate checks are completed for each placement.
  • To develop, implement and manage the Trusts work experience policy and guidance for managers.
  • To develop and organise work experience project weeks for specific staff groups i.e. nursing, medical staff.
  • To attend Trust Recruitment days, schools and colleges careers events to promote work experience in the NHS and NHS Careers.
  • To provide careers advice to work experience candidates.
  • To maintain up to date knowledge of NHS Careers to be able to advise at careers events across Shropshire and the wider ICB footprint.
  • Lead the development of Widening Participation strategies (Pre-employment, Supported Internship, Traineeship, Work Experience), working with key stakeholders, internal and external to the Trust.
  • Engage with and work in partnership with local colleges and sixth form schools in the community to promote healthcare careers at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust .
  • Oversee the Work Experience Programme for the Trust including, T-levels and other government initiatives including the commissioning of programmes from external providers monitoring contract and analysing data from quality activity to ensure return of investment.
  • Provide support, advice, and guidance to managers to embed vocational development programmes in various clinical and non-clinical settings.
  • Work in partnership with external organisations to procure appropriate training providers.
