Trainee Ophthalmic Technician

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cataract suite at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital as a Trainee band 4 Ophthalmic Technician supporting doctors within Cataract and corneal clinics. Following the successful completion of Ophthalmic competencies there will be progression to a Band 5 Ophthalmic Technician post.

Main duties of the job

The position will involve undertaking a variety of skills including pre-assessing patients and ensuring they are fit for surgery, Biometry using IOL Master and / or A Scan , corneal topography. Entering post operative refraction data for patients. Working closely with Clinicians and Optometrists within the community.

Testing patients visual acuity, checking Intra-ocular pressures , performing Optical Coherence Tomography.
