Job summary
We are a medical Same Day Emergency Centre (SDEC). We aim to see, treat and discharge patients with a variety of medical presentations the same day, in a timely manner in order to support the patient flow through acute medicine and ED. In SDEC, we are a part of the Acute Medical team.To support the new acute floor, we are looking for caring and compassionate Healthcare Assistants to join our team. You will have good communication skills and a caring nature, with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. In return we can offer you a robust training programme (a 2 week academy Healthcare programme prior to starting in the department) as well as further training and education to progress your career with us.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide support and assist Registered Nurses delivering all aspects of health care directly to patients, within defined levels of competence and practice. This will include assisting in maintaining a suitable environment in which to deliver that care.
- Support patients during diagnostic tests, treatments & procedures
- Be able to triage the patient on arrival,
- Monitor & record vital signs & be able to escalate appropriately
- Assist in the maintenance of patients nutritional and hydration needs
- Accurately undertake and record patient observations (at a frequency determined by the Registered Nurses) reporting any abnormalities immediately to a Registered Nurse
- Escort patients to and from other wards and departments under the direct instruction of the Registered Nurses
- To move patients safely using techniques taught by the Manual Handling Team, including the safe use of mechanical and non-mechanical manual handling aids
- To provide clinical administrative support to Registered Nurses
- To escalate concerns to the Registered Nurses and Doctors.
- Accurately document care provided and report any changes or concerns to RN's
- Prepare clinical areas & equipment, ensuring infection control protocols are followed
- Provide emotional support & reassurance to patients & their families
- Maintain confidentiality & patient dignity at all times.
