Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Obstetric Bleeding Study UK (OBS UK) research and improvement team. The post will commence in February 2025 and will end in April 2026, with the study due to finish in 2027. Interviews will be held on 16th August 2024.
The Obstetric Bleeding Study UK (OBS UK) is an NIHR-funded study investigating Post-Partum Haemorrhage (PPH). Starting in February 2024, the study will implement a PPH care bundle (based on the OBS Cymru care bundle) as a quality improvement programme in 36 UK-based maternity units. The study is sponsored by Cardiff University, with support from the Cardiff Trials Unit. Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust is the lead English NHS Trust.
The post holder will help to deliver the obstetric implementation of the project, liaising with maternity units across the UK to support and deliver sustainable changes in PPH care. Nationwide travel across 36 hospital sites will therefore be required. The post holder will be supported by the UK-wide multi-professional research team, including Mr William Parry-Smith (Consultant Obstetrician, Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust) and Dr Sarah Bell (Chief Investigator and Consultant Anaesthetist, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff).
Main duties of the job
Duties will include:
To take part in the Tier 2 on call rota.
To provide support to junior trainees and medical students and actively contribute to training and continuity of service.
To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.
To work on agreed research projects within the department and meet agreed academic targets.
To collaborate with academic partners to write up and submit research grant applications.
To disseminate research findings by presenting at local, national and international conferences.
To write up research findings and submit to peer reviewed journals.
If undertaking an MD, meet the academic targets as set by the academic supervisors.

Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.
We also provide services such as consultant-led outreach clinics at the Wrekin Community Clinic, Telford, the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen and the Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Whitchurch Community Hospitals.
