Highly Specialised Sleep/Respiratory Physiologist

Job summary

The Respiratory team is looking for a dynamic, professional and self-motivated Respiratory Physiologist to join our team.

You will assist the Cardiorespiratory Department but work predominantly with the Respiratory Consultants, supporting the sleep service. The successful candidate will be supervised by the Sleep Consultant with on-the-job training and support to attend relevant courses/conferences to gain evidence and sign offs for Sleep CiPs (Capabilities in Practice). This knowledge and training will be cascaded amongst your senior respiratory colleagues. In addition you will support the spirometry service at the CDC and compliment the diagnostic provision at the acute sites. The ability to work cross site is essential.

You must be a conscientious, well-organised individual with excellent interpersonal skills, and have the ability to prioritise work and use your initiative to fit in with a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • The role of The Highly Specialised Respiratory Physiologist is to provide a high quality, patient focused, efficient Respiratory service within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Work in conjunction with the multidisciplinary respiratory team to ensure the service needs are met
  • Performance of the full range of routine and more specialised Respiratory diagnostic tests
  • Responsible for the monitoring and performance of calibration and quality control procedures for all equipment
  • Supervision of less experienced staff
  • Teaching and training of students, trainees and Trust staff
  • Updates own professional knowledge
  • Participation in research and development activities in Respiratory Medicine

Our main service locations are The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

The Cardio-respiratory Department has a base at both hospital sites and is looking for a dynamic, professional and self-motivated Respiratory Physiologist to join our team. This also includes supporting the service provision from the Community Diagnostic Centre, Hollinswood House, which will be open later this year. These centres are a countrywide NHS England initiative to increase access to diagnostic services.
