Main duties of the job
A broad overview of responsibilities includes managing the Trust's bed capacity and patient flow and assisting in the achievement of key performance and quality standards (e.g. emergency and elective admission access targets, single sex accommodation and infection control). You will also be required to support safe staffing levels. Out of hours you will have overall responsibility for the hospital site with support from the on call senior manager and the executive on call.
In conjunction with other members of the Clinical Site Management team, ensure the provision of effective site management, including direct responsibility for the management and reporting of the four hour access target for the Emergency departments and the direction of bed usage throughout the Trust.
The role will cover twenty four hours a day, seven days a week working in shifts.

The Capacity Team are responsible for ensuring patient flow throughout the Trust is safe and effective at all times. The Team encompasses Clinical Site Managers, Hospital @ Night, and facilitating timely discharges from the Trust.
We are a highly motivated and cohesive team putting the patient at the centre of all our discussions. The Capacity Team is a fast paced area, but ensuring patient safety in the Acute Trust setting is very rewarding. We pride ourselves on effective communication and team working to support each other and provide the best service we can.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
- RGN with evidence of continuing post registration professional development
- Specialist Clinical Qualification, i.e. ITU, course, A&E course etc at degree/diploma level or above
Desirable
- Recognised Managerial Qualification i.e. BTEC, CMI or significant demonstrable experience in a management role
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Post registration experience with extensive experience at Band 6 or above or equivalent within the acute care sector
- Decision making capabilities
- Managerial skills and knowledge
- Evidence of coordinating and managing day to day operational issues on a regular basis.
- Experience in communication strategies and handling difficult situations
- Knowledge of both POVA, DOLS and MCA
- An awareness and understanding of national and local issues that affect Nursing and the NHS as a whole. Up to date knowledge and understanding of nursing policy and practice relevant to speciality

- Leadership ability - completion of LEO 3 day programme or equivalent
- Experience in undertaking a preceptor/mentor role
