Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust as a qualified Sonographer and Clinical Skills Trainer.

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure abdominal ultrasound scanning is undertaken to a high standard and in accordance with national standard operating procedures.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Skills Trainer (CST) is pivotal in ensuring that screening staff are competent to perform scans. CSTs also need to be competent in providing:

local training

support and mentoring to trainee screeners

workplace assessment of staff

undertake clinic observations or competency assessments of screening technicians

complete internal quality assurance of images

Perform scans on men who have had non-visualised aortas on initial scan.

Use clinical judgement for men with incidental finds and aorta anomalies as per local guidance.

  • oPostgraduate diploma or certificate in ultrasound or equivalent relevant CASE/SVT accredited qualification
  • oA minimum of two years post registration experience
