Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic individuals to join our Blood Sciences team to work within Biochemistry.

The successful application must possess a relevant qualification along with previous clinical laboratory experience. Candidates should hold either the NVQ Level 3 in Clinical Laboratory Support, or IBMS certificate of achievement Part II, or an equivalent qualification in a relevant science based subject.

Participation in the out of hours rota is compulsory, including weekend, bank holiday early and late shifts.

The post is based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital although candidates may be required to cover absences across sites.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. Staff wanting to work on the bank would be considered .

Main duties of the job

As an Associate Practitioner you will work in collaboration with Biomedical Scientists and other colleagues assisting in the provision of a diagnostic service.

Duties include preparation, operation, monitoring and maintenance of complex laboratory equipment, and will include tasks of a practical nature for which a high level of manual dexterity and careful attention to detail is needed.

You will also be expected to participate in the provision of an out of hours service as part of an average 37.5 hour working week - including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/Public holidays.

The two hospitals, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford are just a 30 minute drive apart.
