Job summary

As part of upskilling our current workforce we are continuing to recruit to the Maternity Support Worker role in line with the national competency framework set out by Health Education England (HEE).

*This will be a training post, starting on a Band 2 salary, and commencing into a Band 3 MSW role once all elements of training required by the framework are completed. If all of the relevant requirements are already completed and evidenced then you can commence immediately into a Band 3 MSW role.*

This role is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who holds the necessary qualifications as outlined in the person specification and is looking to progress their career.

You will be required to undertake care at the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages and will be based either in the Consultant Unit or within one of the community settings on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Maternity Support Worker is to assist, support and work in collaboration with the midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.

The midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her newborn(s) and it is under the direct or indirect supervision of the midwife that the MSW assists with and provides care following completion of any relevant or appropriate training. The post is rotational and the employee will be provided with appropriate training for the clinical setting in which they are working. These settings include antenatal, inpatient or outpatient care, intrapartum inpatient care and postnatal inpatient and outpatient care.

About us

This is an exciting yet challenging time for the maternity services , as we embrace a period of improvement and development. We continue to work in partnership with our local Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) and ICS to improve care for the women and families we serve.

Based in Telford with services across Shropshire, the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Maternity Service is committed to providing a high quality, safe and responsive service to the women we care for. Supporting choice and promoting a philosophy of care that encourages a positive pregnancy and birth experience for women and their families is important to us and we are looking for a like-minded individual to help us further develop our services.

In return for your commitment we can offer you a supportive work environment and opportunities for wider personal development.
