Job summary

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Specialist Clinical Radiologist. The new post holder will join a team of 25 consultant radiologists. The post is whole time however, consideration will be given to those who wish to work part-time or job-share.

The post holder will participate in providing a comprehensive clinical and diagnostic radiology, to the hospital trust in Shropshire (Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust, as well as across the ICB in Shropshire and Powys Local Health Board.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To be part of a team responsible for the provision of a comprehensive clinical, diagnostic and consultative radiology service
  • The post holder will be expected to liaise in a timely manner with clinicians, hospital staff and general practitioners concerning the diagnosis and management of patients.
  • To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
  • To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located 20 minutes' drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week. The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the appointees duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.

The allocation of PAs is reviewed and may be subject to adjustment when a further diary exercise is undertaken or if the service demands a review of the team job plan.

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • FRCR or equivalent training
  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC)

Experience

Essential

  • Imaging the acutely unwell patient, with CT, MRI, plain film or ultrasound
  • Ability to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
  • Quality improvement and audit
  • Cross sectional imaging in the non-acute patient including cancer follow up scans
  • Shall have completed a minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous or in aggregate) since completing their primary medical qualification, of which 6 years should have been within the specialty.
