- The successful applicant must meet the entry requirements for The Level 4 Healthcare Science Associate apprenticeship. This is a 2-year course funded by the Apprenticeship Levy Scheme.
- The successful candidates will complete a two year Healthcare Science Associate training programme. During the programme, you will complete the qualification and benefit from a structured in-house training programme.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a willingness to learn and an interest in the technology of a healthcare setting, to join our Blood Sciences team. The successful applicant will work within a multidisciplinary Pathology team (Biochemistry, Haematology, Blood Transfusion).
The salary will be paid as a percentage of the top of the Band 4 (annexe 21) pay scale until the qualification is completed.
The post is based at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
Main duties of the job
Whilst studying, via distance learning, the successful candidates will gain experience and competence in a wide range of laboratory activities.
As an apprentice Associate Practitioner of Biomedical Science you will work in collaboration with fellow Associate Practitioners, Biomedical Scientists and other colleagues assisting in the provision of a diagnostic service. Duties include preparation, operation, monitoring and maintenance of complex laboratory equipment, and will include tasks of a practical nature for which a high level of manual dexterity and careful attention to detail is needed. You will also be expected to participate in the provision of an out of hours service as part of an average 37.5 hour working week - including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank/Public holidays.

The two hospitals, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford are just a 30 minute drive apart.
