Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Shrewsbury and Telford neonatal Team. We are looking for an experienced, passionate neonatal nurse with expert neonatal clinical, leadership and managerial experience to fill this permanent position as Ward Manager.

We are looking for a forward thinking highly motivated and experienced nurse leader who will champion high level of professional standards and excellence within the Neonatal unit.

You will have responsibility for the day to day operational management of the Neonatal Unit. You will work in collaboration with the Matron, maternity and CYP leads, the senior management team and clinical leads to ensure high standards of quality care provision on the Neonatal Unit.

You will demonstrate effective and compassionate leadership skills to support staff to provide safe and personalised care based on current research and will assist them in taking the quality and improvement agenda forward within the department.

You will be highly visible, approachable and committed to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes while supporting staff from a clinical and non-clinical perspective.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have responsibility for the day to day operational management of the unit to provide safe harm free care for the Neonate and their family .

To support staff to provide safe and personalised care based on current research, ensuring optimum level of safe, effective care, responsive to the needs of each neonate and their family whilst providing a well lead service.

To function as an expert clinical practitioner and to deliver direct patient care whilst, managing, leading, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing practice.

The post holder carries the responsibility for the co-ordination and monitoring of all clinical activities within their designated clinical area.

To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of all resources required to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.

The post holder will deputise for the Matron in his/her absence, driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.

About us

The Neonatal Unit at The Princess Royal Hospital is a NNU and consists of 22 cots (2 ITU, 4 HDU and 16 SC). We are part of the West Midlands Operational Delivery Network.

We embrace family-centred care involving parents in all aspects of their baby's care and are proud of the services we deliver. We have a dedicated community team who follows the baby's journey from discharge to support parents and family within the community.

We have achieved stage 1 BFI accreditation and is currently working towards achieving stage 2. We see parents as partners in care and work together to deliver the highest standards of care and to provide the best experience for each neonate within the hospital and community settings
