Job summary

Working as part of a friendly team, the post holder will support the provision of comprehensive administrative and clerical functions to the Cellular Pathology service at The Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.

This is a full time post to cover clerical duties for a very busy Pathology service providing patient reports in a timely manner. The post holder will be required to follow guidelines and ensure the effective provision of a quality service. We are looking for an administration assistant who works well in a team but can also carry out work on their own. This is not a patient facing role but interactions with patients and relatives may occur when taking messages or contacting people back after they have raised a question with the team.

Previous experience of working in an administrative role within a healthcare setting would be beneficial. You should also have sound knowledge of software programmes such as Microsoft Office. This role is reliant on the post holder to have good IT skills such us: Outlook, Excel and Word. The post-holder, therefore, will require these skills on appointment. Training on Telepath on Vantage will be provided.

Main duties of the job

To provide basic administrative and clerical support for the Cellular Pathology teams, including general typing, data entry, photocopying, filing, sorting and distribution of incoming post for the department. Undertake the preparation of MDT/review meetings. Book in opinion reviews as required and contribute to slide and card filing. Use computer systems to accurately record patient information and material location.

You will be report to the Office Lead in Cellular Pathology and accountable to the Operational Manager and to support the management team. General administration tasks such as stock management, typing up meeting notes, maintaining notice boards, setting up meetings, booking rooms etc. will also be part of your daily role.
