Job summary

We are looking to appoint an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join a team of 26 otherconsultants working across the field of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in a busy District General Hospital.

This post is a generalist role covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology with theatre, outpatient hysteroscopy, antenatal & gynaecology clinics and resident and non-resident Obstetric and Gynaecology acute cover.

All acute services including the labour ward and main theatre are based at the Princess Royal site with antenatal and gynaecology clinics also provided at both thePrincess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital sites.

This is a substantive post, and we would encourage you to consider taking on an additional remunerated spa role working with the extensive MDT & PROMPT training team or in another leadership role should your strengths lieelsewhere.

Main duties of the job

Clinical;

o Gynaecology theatre.o Outpatient Hysteroscopy sessions.o Antenatal & Gynaecology clinics.o Resident O&G on callso Non-Resident gynaecology on calls.o SPA role to be decided with the successful applicant which may involve MDT & PROMPTtraining, or another strength should the applicant have skills in another area.o To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management ofacutely ill patients.o To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to workwell in a multi-professional team.o To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teamsand commissioners.o To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

About us

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust's catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

We also provide services such as consultant-led outreach clinics at the Wrekin Community Clinic, Telford, the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Gobowen and the Bridgnorth, Ludlow and Whitchurch Community Hospitals.

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week.

The job plan will be reviewed annually and is a prospective agreement that sets out the consultant's duties, responsibilities, and objectives for the coming year. It covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities.

It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external and will include personal objectives, detailing links to wider service improvements and trust strategic priorities.

  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
  • Must be able to work a minimum of four consecutive resident nights.

  • MBBS, MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • ATSM in: - Advanced Labour ward practice and Benign Gynaecological surgery, Open & Laparoscopic
