Job summary

INTERNAL VACANCY

We are currently looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic, motivated, forward thinking Theatre Team Leader to join our Theatre Team at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital This post is specifically to work within the Professional Development Team within the theatre department to support and guide the development of all staff.

You will be required to cover a range of shifts which will include weekends and nights. There will also be an expectation that during periods of staff sickness or staff shortages you may be asked to work across both sites.

You should demonstrate in your application a desire to develop your career within the theatre setting and have a strong commitment to teaching.

Main duties of the job

  • To function as an competent clinical practitioner within the designated clinical area.
  • To deliver direct patient care whilst, co-ordinating and overseeing nursing/theatre practice.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the delivery of clinical activities during their span of duty.
  • To ensure that there is efficient and effective utilisation of resources to deliver optimum quality care to their client group.

About us

The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital consists of 9 operating theatres. We have an on-call team that covers the theatres 24/7 on our Shrewsbury site we cover the following specialities: Trauma & Orthopaedics, CEPOD, Urology, Upper G.I., Colorectal, Ophthalmology, Vascular and General surgery

  • RGN or reg. ODP
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional development/ qualification relevant to area of speciality.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant post Registration experience in Theatres/Anaesthetics.
  • Managerial ability
  • High level clinical skills and knowledge.
  • Evidence of co-ordinating, managing and leading the team in out of hours service delivery.
  • Teaching ability
  • Experience in undertaking preceptor/mentor role
  • An awareness and understanding of nursing/department policy and practice relevant to speciality.

Desirable

  • Willingness to undertake mentorship course
  • Involvement in Nursing audit and Research.

Skills and Ability

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team setting.
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non verbal and written.
  • Microsoft office PC. and Sema Pas skills
