Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Clinical Support Services Division as we seek applications from enthusiastic, highly motivated individuals to join and lead our Pharmacy Centre as their Chief Pharmacist. The successful applicant will provide strong, effective, innovative and efficient leadership in the planning, co-ordination, development and delivery of all pharmaceutical services within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Clinical Support Services Division comprises of four centres: Pathology, Pharmacy, Radiology and Therapies. This is a pivotal role within the Division and you will join a dedicated senior team working in a rapidly moving but supportive environment.

The role of Chief Pharmacist is an important leadership position and fulfils several statutory roles for the Trust including the roles of Superintendent Pharmacist, Accountable Officer for Controlled Drugs, Responsible Officer for Homecare Medicines, responsibility for Good x Practice and compliance with licensing and regulatory bodies such as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), Home office, Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Main duties of the job

The Chief Pharmacist provides leadership, specialist advice and expertise to the Trust, with responsibility for all aspects of pharmacy services and medicines management across the organisation. The post holder will ensure that staff and medicines are managed in line with relevant legislation and regulations, and that national and professional guidance on medicines governance is followed across the organisation.

The successful candidate will work with other centres and divisional leads as required to deliver the Trust's overall strategic objectives.

The post holder will participate in a Trust on-call rota.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales.

Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located 20 minutes' drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range ofacute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

Pharmacy within the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust operates across two hospital sites, employs 160 members of staff and offers Medicines Management, Dispensing, Homecare, Clinical Trials, Aseptic, and Radiopharmaceutical services.
