Job summary

Due to on-going investment, a structure review and subsequent expansion of the Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Team within West London CAMHS, an excitement opportunity has arisen for a child and adolescent psychotherapist to join Hounslow Tier 3 CAMHS as a Highly Specialist (Band 8a) Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist on a part time (7 sessions, 0.7 WTE).

For the 8a Highly Specialist post, we are looking for achildand adolescent psychotherapist with a broad range of experience, including experience of working with children and families who present with a high levelofcomplexity and require skilled and multi-layered assessments and intervention.You will provide psychotherapy assessments and specialist psychotherapy treatment including Short Term Psychotherapy (STPP) and parent work, alongside more generic clinical work.

Child and adolescent psychotherapists working currently working at specialist level (band 7) are welcome to apply and the post would be equally suitable for somebody with experience working at 8a already, but who wishes to take on a new challenge. You will receive regular supervision and line management from the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. There are excellent opportunities for professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post would be suited to someone who is passionate about delivering high quality and effective services with young people and families, as well as an interest in supervision, and working with multidisciplinary and multi-agency colleagues on some of the challenges facing mental health services for children and young people.

You will offer an efficient, effective and comprehensive child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy service to children and young people with severe, complex and persistent mental health problems and their families/careers, and liaise effectively with other CAMHS colleagues and others in the network supporting the young person.

Furthermore, you will offer highly specialist supervision and consultation to staff within the Hounslow CAMHS service and to staff of related agencies, including a child psychotherapy trainee on placement, and will promote the discipline and practice of child psychotherapy in the Hounslow CAMHS team.

About us

Hounslow CAMHS is a borough-located service, and operates as part of a wider three-borough CAMHS service, including Ealing and Hammersmith and Fulham, within West London NHS Trust. The service prides itself in thinking and implementing creative and innovative ways of delivering care, and there are opportunities to be involved in quality improvement projects, audit and research.

Hounslow CAMHS is supportive and welcoming team with a well-established psychotherapy discipline. The service consists of a Child and family team, Adolescent team and a Neurodevelopmental team. All three teams are multi-disciplinary, including psychiatry, nursing, family therapy, child psychotherapy, psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry, as well as CAMHS practitioners.

There are also two tri-borough teams for young people with eating disorders and who are experiencing a crisis, that serve Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham. A range of therapeutic approaches are offered within all teams, individual and group, including EMDR, NVR, CBT, systemic family interventions and child and adolescent psychotherapy. Child and adolescent psychotherapy is highly valued within Hounslow CAMHS and the plan is for further expansion in the next few years.
