Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor to work in the West London Tri-borough Perinatal Mental Health Service. The post is a one year fixed-term, full time post, that is in line with the new terms and conditions introduced in April 2021.

The West London Tri-borough Perinatal Mental Health Service comprises three borough based teams providing specialist, multidisciplinary perinatal mental health care for women from preconception, during pregnancy and up to a year postnatal.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic specialty doctor, with competencies, knowledge and skills relevant to perinatal psychiatry who will work primarily across two boroughs (Hounslow and Ealing). The post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist, but will also have opportunities to develop greater supervisory and leadership roles.

This post will also provide an opportunity for career progression for highly experienced specialty doctors and support those looking to acquire competencies to support AC or CESR application, if desired.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will:

  • Work closely with the perinatal consultants, providing medical input into the clinical work of other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Conduct assessments of perinatal psychiatric presentations in acute and non-acute settings.
  • Provide immediate and medium-term management of perinatal psychiatric illness.
  • Assessment of capacity, and understanding of the MCA as it applies to antenatal care and obstetric interventions.
  • Use clinical skills in coordinating multidisciplinary specialist input across maternity, primary and secondary care, tertiary specialist services, social care and voluntary sector.
  • Will screen for parent-infant relationship difficulties.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • shall have completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty doctor in a relevant specialty or shall have equivalent experience and competencies

Desirable

  • Possession of MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
  • Other postgraduate degrees eg MSc, MD, MRCP etc.

  • Full GMC registration with license to practice

  • Section 12 (2) Approval under Mental Health Act 1983 or be eligible for approval.

  • Experience working in General Adult Psychiatry
