Job summary

We are looking to welcome you! - an experienced Occupational Therapist with knowledge and understanding of working with individuals during a mental health crisis:

To develop and oversee the provision of an evidence-based occupational therapy service within the Crisis, Assessment and Treatment Teams across the three boroughs, in collaboration with multidisciplinary clinical teams, service-users and carers.

To manage a caseload of clients with complex needs, using evidence-based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate outcomes.

To provide specialist Occupational Therapy input to planning, development and evaluation of clinical services within designated areas, holding responsibility for defined projects.

To deputise for the Senior Manager within the service as required and take responsibility for supporting the CATT manager in the management and co-ordination of the OT Service.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that the Occupational Therapy service delivered to patients is client-centred, needs-led, evidence- based and non-discriminatory.

  • To identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan, using specialist mental health and Occupational Therapy assessment tools and outcome measures.

  • To ensure patient/group treatment programmes are monitored, evaluated and modified as required on a regular and systematic basis to measure, progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

  • To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyles and adaptations to improve the service user's social and physical environment.

To facilitate fieldwork education for Occupational Therapy students undertaking placements within relevant areas and be responsible for the supervision and written assessments of these students

To ensure that the professional standards and ethics as set out by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) are adhered to at all times.

Clinical:

  • To be responsible for the planning and delivery of occupational therapy within a designated area, prioritising clinical needs to provide an effective service.

  • To ensure that the Occupational Therapy service delivered to patients is client-centred, needs-led, evidence- based and non-discriminatory.

  • To assess the occupational needs of a defined client group and establish and develop appropriate treatment programmes commensurate with identified patient needs, in collaboration with the clinical team.

  • To be an integral member of the AMHS and Local Services Senior Occupational Therapy Team and play a full and active role in the management of the Occupational Therapy Service within CATT and contribute ideas to the Occupational Therapy Service as a whole.

  • To support research activities and quality improvement projects, to ensure services are evidence-based, effective and safe.

  • To ensure that there is an agreed annual programme of audit and evaluation. To contribute to clinical governance and quality initiatives by leading on implementation as appropriate for the relevant service.

  • To facilitate the production of reports, accurate data and workload analysis systems, as required by Senior Managers.

  • To represent the Occupational Therapy Service on both internal and external groups, working in partnership with other services and agencies.

  • To ensure allocated staff receive regular supervision, appraisal and personal development, within the provision of a comprehensive supervision framework.

  • To be a member of and actively contribute to appropriate Directorate and/or Trust committees and working groups.
