Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8b Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the West London CAMHS Nursing Team. We are seeking applications from nurses with extensive post qualifying experience of working within a multidisciplinary CAMHS setting which includes experience working at Band 8a. The Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist will play a pivotal role in the development and leadership of the CAMHS Nursing Team whilst also providing highly specialised CAMHS assessment and therapeutic interventions in the specialist area, as well as risk management work, for children and young people presenting with complex and severe mental health problems who are referred to the service.

The successful applicant for this vacant position will join the Adolescent Team, Hounslow CAMHS which is based at Heart of Hounslow, Centre for Health, 92 Bath Road, Hounslow TW3 3EL. The specialist area for this post is generic CAMHS Adolescents.

The Adolescent Team is part of the Hounslow Specialist CAMH Service, which also includes a neurodevelopmental, learning disability team and children and families team. The Service also links to a comprehensive Community CAMH Service, CAMHS Crisis Prevention/Care Team (ALLIANCE) and a CAMHS Eating Disorder Service. The Adolescent Team is multi-disciplinary, including psychiatry, nursing, family therapy psychology, psychotherapy and social work.

Main duties of the job

As a Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist you will provide a visible and accessible leadership presence within the locality or specialist service where the post is located. You will also be an active member of the local leadership team and provide professional leadership for the local nursing team.

As a Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist you will also provide highly specialised CAMHS assessment and therapeutic interventions, as well as risk management work, for children and young people presenting with complex and severe mental health problems. You will work in partnership with children, young people, their families, carers and significant others. You will also engage with statutory and voluntary agencies to develop networks to ensure that the needs of young people with acute, complex, long-standing and/or severe mental health problems are appropriately assessed, contained, and treated, and that the quality of life and competence of the young people and families involved are enhanced during the course of their work.

The Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist will also contribute to the delivery of the CAMHS Development Programme and will have responsibility for ensuring that appropriate mentorship, support and supervision is provided for all staff who are undertaking the Training and Progression Pathway within the locality or specialist service where the post is located

  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • Professional registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) RMN.
  • Evidence of credible continuing professional development in child and adolescent mental health practice
  • MSc level training in a relevant specialist field or demonstrable consolidated experience that equates to Masters level knowledge
  • Training in supervision

Desirable

  • Training in individual and group therapeutic interventions e.g. CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, EMDR, Family Interventions, NVR
