Job summary
We are looking for a nurse practitioner to join the physical health team at West London NHS Trust. This is a new role as our service is expanding. The team is led by a consultant nurse and there are two nurse practitioners in post. The team aims to support staff in delivering high quality physical health care to mental health inpatients.
The nurse practitioner will see patients, asses and treat people with a variety of conditions including hypertension, diabetes and acute and chronic injuries and wounds.
The nurse practitioner will also have the opportunity to teach staff new skills such as venepuncture and taking an ECG and support staff in gaining competencies.
You will have the opportunity to take part in audits and develop plans to improve practice.
You will provide cross cover to our other inpatient units and will be supported by the team members.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an adult/general trained Registered Nurse with advanced assessment and prescribing skills. We will support the nurse in developing competencies and there are excellent development opportunities within the Trust. We have strong links with other key services including our local general hospitals and community services, the community mental health teams, Police Service, Emergency Duty Teams, Advocacy Service, Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Teams, Chaplaincy Service and other voluntary organisations
We have a nurse consultant in physical healthcare and post holder will work with and be supported by the nurse consultant. The post holder will on occasion deputise for the nurse consultant and may be required to attend meetings and carry out formal and informal training sessions. The post holder will see and assess patients and work with medical and nursing staff to ensure physical health problems are treated effectively.
You must possess good written and verbal communication skills and be computer literate. Candidates will need to demonstrate some understanding of the needs of services users who are experiencing a mental health crisis and be willing to adapt to the specific needs of individuals
