Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to help run our All age Autism Diagnostic Hub alongside a Speech and Language Therapist and an Expert by experience.

The candidate will conduct psychology and autism assessments alongside the qualified psychology manager or the speech and language therapist.

The candidate will support the expert by experience to contact and provide services, groups and information drops to relevant people and families.

This job is initially a 6 month fixed term contract.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical

  1. To work alongside the speech and language therapist and the expert by experience in the hub environment to screen referrals respond to referrers collect further information and enter information into systems
  2. To support around psychological assessments and autism related assessments as appropriate
  3. To make contact and work alongside families to support the dissemination of information
  4. To support in group sessions around teaching training and consultation for people and families with autism
  5. To support the screening of referrals in a timely manner and assist the speech and language therapist in information gathering and onward referrals across the adult and children pathways.
  6. To report areas of concern to a more senior member of the inpatient team as soon as possible to co-ordinate a response that maintains safety for staff and patients.
  7. To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
  8. To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care; and maintaining associated records
  9. To participate in regular departmental case reviews and teaching sessions
  10. To provide a perspective informed by a review of documentation and verbal handovers at multidisciplinary team reviews and care planning meetings
  11. Maintain meaningful and accurate patient records on a day to day basis, inputting data into Trust/health system electronic record systems which include Electronic Patient Record Systems, Electronic Staff Record systems (e.g. Appraisal and supervision records) and other Assurance systems such as Incident recording
  12. Use information technology in line with Trust and NHS information governance requirements, and maintain up to date knowledge of systems and governance requirements.

Teaching, Training and Supervision

  1. To receive regular line management supervision
  2. To engage in clinical supervision around psychological practice and attend reflective practice and clinical skills development sessions
  3. To gain wider experience of professional psychology within the NHS as agreed with the psychologist to whom they are accountable
  4. To develop skills and competencies that assist in meeting the key targets of the role
  5. To report to manager concerns about areas of training need.
  6. To contribute to and co-ordinate to teaching and training materials around psychological techniques and autism
  7. To participate in continual professional development as directed including attending training courses, conferences and workshops as directed

Research/ Evaluation/ Audit

  1. Collate and report on information across the autism pathway using information systems to a high standard
  2. To contribute to audit/research/QI within the Trust using qualitative and quantitative methods
  3. Use skills in undertaking research, audit and evaluation analyse and interpret complex data, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
