Main duties of the job

The post holder will train on the Children & Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP IAPT) Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and Learning Disabilities (LD) Practitioner Course and carry out clinical work in our teams to complement their studies and use their newly developing skills. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health practitioners to work and train within our teams. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children and young people with ASC/LD, their families, and schools, using evidence-based interventions consistent with the course.

These posts are fixed term training contracts for the year of training. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end and applicants will be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within CAMHS and will be provided support and advice in job applications.

Information about how to apply

This is a training position and so all candidates will need to apply for both the trainee role with WLNHST and the UCL Post Graduate Diploma in Child and Young Person IAPT Therapy in order to be shortlisted (for more information about the course and minimum entry criteria, please see the course page and brochures: https://www.annafreud.org/ucl-postgraduate-study/ucl-postgraduate-programmes/child-and-young-person-iapt-therapy-pg-dip/) . Please complete your university application using the UCL University Application Guidance supplied.

About us

As these are training positions, please be aware that this is a dual application process where you must be employed in a Recruit to Train funded job to also receive a place on the course, and vice-versa. If you withdraw from an employment offer but you have accepted a university offer, you will be unable to join the course. You must apply to the course at the same time as this job.

Please note in this instance the course is not optional; the roles are dependent on meeting all course requirements. Applicants for this training at UCL will need to be available to start on 4th January 2023 (with the course starting on the 16th January).

One of these 1-year training posts will be based within Ealing CAMHS Mental Health Support Team (MHST) and one will be based in Hammersmith & Fulham CAMHS Neurodevelopmental and Learning Disability Team.

The ASC/LD Trainee role in Ealing will be based in the Mental Health Support Team, MHST+ Learning Disabilities and Autism Practitioners (LDAPs). The MHST+ LDAPs provide a specialist service within the wider Mental Health Support Team offering early intervention support for mild to moderate mental health needs (low mood, anxiety) and challenging behaviours, using evidence-based approaches adapted to the needs of needs of children and young people with ASC/LD. We are a schools based service, working with children and young people with ASC/LD and mental health and/or challenging behaviour needs in Ealing MHST primary and secondary schools.

The ASC/LD trainee role in Hammersmith & Fulham is based within the Specialist CAMHS, Neurodevelopmental and learning disability (NDLD) team, where we complete assessments and interventions for children and young people with neurodevelopmental concerns such as Autism, ADHD, Tics disorder and Learning Disability or Developmental delays, and their families. This is a 0-18 service for children and young persons registered with a GP in Hammersmith and Fulham.

West London NHS Trust CAMHS is proud to have made a rapid transition to delivering online interventions during the pandemic and you will have the opportunity to work flexibly in this role, combining days of coming into the base and face to face work, with telephone and online meetings.
