We have created an exciting new development of RGN posts to work with our existing services to deliver high quality physical health care in our mental health inpatient settings.

Main duties of the job

We provide a welcoming environment, offering personalised care to improve people's health and wellbeing. Adult Mental Health Services are fast paced and dynamic and we welcome individuals who have a real passion for delivering quality outcomes.

  • To take a lead on nursing related physical healthcare delivery with direct contact and intervention with patients.
  • To support the existing workforce in delivering physical healthcare and take an active role in training and developing the workforce in delivery of basic physical healthcare monitoring and treatment.
  • Take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings and support staff in ensuring that physical health assessment, treatment and care planning are undertaken in a timely manner.
  • To provide support to Lead nurse/Matron by providing physical health reviews and evaluations at their request.
  • To provide regular assessment of the physical health needs of patients with appropriate follow up (screening and intervention) and monitoring of outcomes. In particular, use of the Lester cardio-metabolic health resource
  • Produce outstanding written reports based on your nursing assessments & observations

  • Mentorship qualification

Desirable

  • Training in any long term conditions such as Diabetes, COPD, CHD
  • Training in Venepuncture/ Phlebotomy and ECG monitoring
  • Training in smoking cessation and knowledge of Recovery Care Model (MINT).
  • Willingness to undertake further qualification to upskill

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience within a Practice / Recovery service including mental health knowledge.
  • Previous experience of managing and developing a nursing team.
  • Experience in management long term conditions e.g., COPD, diabetes, CHD
  • Experience in nursing practice and assessment in continence, tissue viability, management and treatment of minor injuries / illness.

Desirable

  • Experience and evidence of teaching, demonstrated to 998/SLICE or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with student nurses and mentoring students.
  • Evidence of working autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of their own clinical practice

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate various programmes of physical healthcare.
  • Knowledge of national standards that inform practice (e.g. National Service Frameworks, NICE guidelines etc).
  • Ability to assess and manage patient risk effectively and safely.
