Job summary
This post is an exciting opportunity for a Psychiatrist with a CCT in Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry or within three months of being awarded their CCT. Experience of working within secure services is desirable. The Post Holder will provide Consultant responsibility for Barron Low Secure Male Ward (10 PAs). Barron Ward is one of the low secure wards based at Tony Hillis Wing, part of The St Bernard Hospital in Ealing.
The Post Holder is expected to have Consultant responsibility for service users on Barron ward. West London Forensic Service is increasing investment in its services, including community service provision.
West London Forensic Service is commissioned to provide 251 inpatient secure beds and community forensic services to North West London Region. The service is divided into three directorates: Men's Medium Secure; Men's Low Secure & Community; and Women's (including Women's Enhanced Medium Secure).
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have consultant responsibility for 18 low secure patient (10 PAs).
The post holder will be responsible for the quality of clinical care on Barron Ward.
The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of care in accordance with national policy (CPA, NICE guidelines) and local policy (Clinical Model, Admissions & Transfers Policy).
The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical Leadership to Barron Ward, which includes working in partnership with the Ward Manager, leading the MDT and chairing key clinical and management meetings on the ward.
The post holder will be responsible for legal and statutory requirements under the Mental Health Act as the Responsible Clinician; which may include Renewal of detention, annual statutory reports for the Ministry of Justice on restricted patients, preparation of reports for and attendance at Mental Health Review Tribunals.
The post holder will be responsible for compliance with the Code of Practice.
The posts holder will work closely with local psychiatric services and other agencies, including the Ministry of Justice in the case of restricted patients, to facilitate the transfer or discharge of suitable patients.
