Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor to join the well-established and expanding Neurodevelopmental Team at Ealing CAMHS, West London NHS Trust.
The post-holder will join a multidisciplinary team, and will work alongside the 1.0 WTE Consultant Psychiatrist in the commissioned waiting list team, to support the transformation of the service, including a waiting list initiative. The team was successful in a bid for funds to provide additional clinical staff and access to web-based assessment tools. This post offers specialist training in all aspects of assessment in relation to ASD, ADHD and tic disorders and there will be opportunities to run/ be part of groups in psychoeducation, do targeted pieces of therapy and offer medication clinics. There is available training to attend evidence-based specialist assessment and treatment courses for neurodevelopmental disorders. It is an ideal opportunity to perfect your skills in this area, we would particularly welcome applicants with an interest in stakeholder engagement, as there are a number of parallel projects within the community that would benefit from a clinician's viewpoint.
This post is permanent, but secondments or shorter locum contracts would be considered.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting time to be joining our Child & Adolescent Services. with considerable change taking place across the 3 London Boroughs in the Directorate (Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, and Ealing). In addition to the Neurodevelopmental Service transformation, the Ealing CAMH Service is active in a Phase 1 New Care Models Programme (focused on improved use of Tier 4 beds and development of crisis interventions), development of Child Wellbeing Practitioners, and is a Trailblazer for the new Mental Health Support Teams in Schools.
Ealing CAMHS offers comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, for children, young people and families in the 0-18 age range. It is a community based out-patient service characterised by family centred and individually tailored treatment packages. There are close links with colleagues in Tier 2 and other Tier 3 CAMHS services, Acute and Community Paediatrics, Education, Social Services, Primary Care, and Adult Mental Health Services.

This Clinical Specialty Doctor post sits within the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT) of Ealing CAMHS.
West London CAMHS service line offers a service to children and young people across the London Boroughs of Ealing, Hounslow and Hammersmith and Fulham.
Ealing CAMHS provides community (Tier 2) and specialist (Tier 3) services. The specialist services include the Neurodevelopmental Team (6-17 years), community Adolescent Team (14-17 years), Children and Families Team (0-13 years) and Learning Disability Team (0-17 years). There are specific pathways for young people with psychosis established in collaboration between the community Adolescent Team and the Ealing Early Intervention Service for Psychosis. There is also a Trust-wide CAMHS crisis service (Alliance Team) undertaking assessments in A&E, paediatric wards and community, and a Trust-wise CAMHS Eating Disorders Service.

Specialist CAMHS services are multidisciplinary, consisting of: Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, Specialty Doctor, Core and Specialty trainees, Family Therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Child Psychotherapist, Nurses, CAMHS Practitioners and Admin. An Out of Hours service is available within the Trust CAMHS Service Line, and provides support and advice for children and young people who are in a crisis and present to the local A+E in an emergency (after 4pm and on weekends). There is a tri-borough CAMHS out of hours provision based at West Middlesex Hospital.
The Ealing CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team is a specialist NHS child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) for children and young people.We provide multidisciplinary assessment and treatment for children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and chronic ticdisorders or Tourettes syndrome (TS).
The service is for children and young people who are aged6-17 years of age, and who: (i) do not have a learning disability or attend a special needs schools, and (ii) are registered with a GP in the London Borough of Ealing. There are different ways to access support from the service. Referrals can be made by any professional working with children, young people and families, such as:
- General Practitioners (GP)
- Teachers or other school staff
- School nurses
- Special educational needs coordinators in schools
- Social workers
- Paediatricians
- Speech and language therapists

As part of this assessment, we aim to gather as much information from a range of sources - this will include liaising with the school and other professionals involved, with the permission of the family and young person.Our assessments follow the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance on neurodevelopmental assessments and typically consist of a number of appointments, including:
- Gathering of standardised questionnaires from home, school and young people
- Meeting with the child and family to discuss concerns and to gather information on family background, educational history, medical history, and any risky or challenging behaviour your child may be displaying
- A detailed developmental and symptom history, which involves asking questions about the childs early years
- Assessment appointments will be booked as needed, which will include clinical observation of the child. Further assessment appointments will be booked according to any additional information or observation we need to do.
If following the neurodevelopmental assessment, the child received a neurodevelopmental diagnosis, parents will be invited to attend a psychoeducation group at Ealing CAMHS - this will be tailored to the diagnosis (ASD, ADHD or tic disorders) with other parents as part of NICE guidelines pathway to care. Following this, the parents or guardian and the young person (where appropriate) will be invited to attend a follow-up session to review the childs progress and ongoing behaviours. Any concerns will be discussed at that time and the child may be signposted to appropriate services to meet their needs as required. For ADHD or tic disorders to a certain degree of clinical severity, the clinicians will discuss with the young person and parents the consideration of initiating a medication trial for the child. If the child presents with ongoing mental health needs such as anxiety, long-standing low mood or depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis or trauma-related disorders - the team will consider the appropriate CAMHS team to offer support for this.
