Job responsibilities

• The Child and Family Team provides generic CAMHS assessments and intervention for young people (under the age of 15) and families who have a GP in the Hounslow Borough.
• The team has offices in the Heart of Hounslow and all team meetings take place within the Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health.
• The team consists of the following staffing establishment:
  • Consultant Child psychiatrist (0.9 WTE)
  • Community Psychiatric Nurse (1.0 WTE)
  • Community Psychiatry Nurse band 6 (1.0 WTE)
  • Family Therapist (0.7 WTE).
  • Clinical Psychologists (1.2 WTE)
  • Child psychotherapist (0.5 WTE)
  • Trainee Psychiatrist (0.5 WTE)
• The team is responsible for the assessment and management of all generic cases referred to the department for young people under the age of 15.
• The team contributes to the Deliberate Self Harm rota, which provides urgent same day assessments for priority cases. These referrals are primarily from the West Middlesex University Hospital Accident and Emergency Department, but can also be referred from other sources (GPs, schools and social services for example).
• The team see a range of referrals including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and psychosis and complex family related issues.
• There is a weekly team meeting where new referrals are discussed and follow up provided on treatment progress / outcomes. This meeting also serves the function of supporting medical and nursing staff when managing difficult cases.

1. The Hounslow Adolescent Team (AT)

• The Adolescent Team provides generic CAMHS assessments and intervention for young people (over the age of 15) and families who have a GP in the Hounslow Borough.
• The team has offices in the Heart of Hounslow and all team meetings take place within the Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health.
• The team consists of the following staffing establishment:
  • Consultant Child psychiatrist (1.0 WTE)
  • Community Psychiatric Nurse Band 8 (1.0 WTE)
  • Community Psychiatric Nurse Band 7 (1.0 WTE)
  • Psychiatric SHO (0.5 WTE)
  • Family Therapist (1WTE).
  • CAMHS Professional (1.0 WTE)
  • Clinical Psychologist (1 WTE)
  • Psychotherapist (0.8 WTE)
  • Psychotherapist (0.3 WTE)

1. The Post:

• This post lies within the Child, and Adolescent Services of West London Mental Health NHS Trust. The post-holder will be based at Hounslow CAMHS at the Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health.
• The post is split, depending on needs, between the Adolescent Team and the Child and Family Team. The post contributes to the service Duty Rota providing experience in managing referrals and urgent response. There are also opportunities for experience in the Neurodevelopmental Team, as well as opportunity for work with other health services and agencies
• CAMHS Experience

1. The Clinician will join the Adolescent assessment team meeting and clinics, and if needed support the CFT assessment clinic and team.
2. The Clinician will be able to offer assessment and treatment to cases referred to the teams, be expected to be involved in case management and will have opportunity to co-work cases with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
3. Clinical Supervision will be offered by the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.
4. The doctor will be offered the opportunity to attend multi-professional meetings and liaise with the extended networks involved in providing services to cases referred.
5. There is opportunity to gain experience in different psychotherapeutic modalities under supervision of trained professionals. These include family therapy, psychotherapy and CBT but the main duty is managing the day to day activities and caseload.

• Duty clinician:

1. It is anticipated that duty clinicians experience will be provided within the CAMHS duty rota in Hounslow CAMHS.

1. Educational needs:

• dedicated time for clinical supervision is made available to the Clinician on a weekly basis.
• There is a weekly academic programme within the Hounslow CAMHS.
• Clinical Governance:
  • The Clinician will be expected to participate in related activities e.g. risk management, audit, accreditation programmes and user involvement projects.
  • There is frequent opportunity to participate in clinical audit across all stages of the audit cycle.
  • Participation in research is strongly encouraged.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential

• MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
• Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
• Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment
• Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with three months of appointment

Desirable

• Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
• MRCPsych
• In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

Essential

• Excellent knowledge in specialty
• Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
• Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
• Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.

Desirable

• Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
