Deputy Superintendent Mammographer/ Diagnostic Radiographer

Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and skilled Mammographer/ Diagnostic Radiographer to join our amazing team. The post-holder will work within the symptomatic breast service, performing clinical mammographic procedures and deputising for the breast imaging Superintendent. She will also lead the mammography quality assurance programme and assist with the training and development of mammographers and associate practitioners. This is a rotational post, which will involve rostering in other imaging modalities. Therefore, the post-holder will be expected to participate in a 24/7 shift system and on call rota. A part-time working pattern will be considered

Main duties of the job

To undertake standard and supplementary mammograms for new symptomatic patients and post-treatment patients within the breast imaging service.To ensure that the image quality of standard mammograms meets the criteria for diagnosis as stipulated by the NHS Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP).To treat each patient with dignity, respect and sensitivity. Demonstrating empathy, particularly to patients that may be experiencing emotional distress.

Job responsibilities

To assist with interventional breast procedures such as stereotactic/tomographic biopsies and wire localisations.

To prepare instrument trolleys in readiness for sterile procedures.

To provide care and support to patients undergoing invasive procedures.

To ensure that all consumables and pharmaceuticals used are in date and intact.

To X-ray core specimens to determine the presence of calcifications.

To ensure that all specimens are accurately labelled, double checked, securely stored and delivered to the correct location for laboratory analysis.

To X-ray breast specimens from theatre to ensure excision of all abnormal breast tissue.

To perform the daily checklist in order to ensure that the mammography room is ready each day for clinical use.

To ensure that the clinical room is well stocked with sterile consumables, and that these are within date and in good condition. To alert the Superintendent Radiographer if supplies need to be ordered.

To ensure that infection prevention & control standards are maintained at all times and that equipment is clean and ready for use.

To adhere to Trust policies and ensure that Mandatory Training is completed within compulsory time frames.
