Practice Educator for Safer Staffing & Roster Utilisation

Job summary

The focus of this role is to support the development and implementation of the self-rostering project for the Nursing and midwifery workforce across Whittington health . They will provide the training, develop learning material and support to ensure a this initiative is implemented successfully.

They will perform a variety of tasks including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, monitoring, and summarising progress to the Lead Nurse, and assisting in the delivery of the key performance indicators.

The role will support on workforce data reporting in relation to Safe Staffing and self-rostering as per national and local guidance.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

provide training and support to the clinical areas involved in the development and implementation of self-rostering within Whittington health.

  • Contribute to the implementation of self Rostering project through education and training of nursing /midwifery colleagues and students

Contribute to the production of project documents (material, project plans, project progress reports and project risk reports) for the self-rostering implementation for nurses and midwives across the organisation.

Support data entry and collection through the provision of training and education on:

o eRostering management in conjunction with the rostering team

o Acuity & Dependency scoring and interpretation

o Recording on the SafeCare tool

o The links between patient safety /quality and safe staffing

Contribute to safer staffing and roster utilisation reporting processes internally and externally . They will review national best practice in roster management and work with the manager to implement any new solutions locally.

Support service leads to use data information to proactively manage rosters and meet KPIs.

Establish effective working relationships with staff across the Trust, acting as a champion and demonstrating a positive attitude towards change. To contribute to the sharing of best practice, policy, standard operating procedures that have been set locally, regionally and nationally.

  • Work with the Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing and Roster Manager to ensure SafeCare processes and systems are in place to efficiently develop and implement the self-rostering initiative.
  • Support the monitoring and review of nursing and midwifery workforce metrics, reporting on performance and instituting remedial action where necessary.
  • In collaboration with the Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing, support the ICSU nursing and midwifery teams, the Chief Nurse and Deputy Chief Nurse to deliver the NQB standards related to the Care Quality Commissions (CQC) regulation 18 related to staffing.
  • Deputise for theLead Nurse for Safer Staffing and Roster Utilisation matters as required.
  • Support the Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing and the Associate Chief Nurse in the smooth running of the bi-annual establishment review process.

Clinical and Professional

  • In collaboration with the Lead Nurse for Safer Staffing monitor the RAG rating of staffing levels on SafeCare and ensure it reflects professional judgement accurately and where necessary make recommendations for change.

Communications

  • Maintain effective communication links and work collaboratively with staff groups identified in Key Working Relationships and other divisional or departmental teams as appropriate.
  • Promote the implementation of self-rostering at ICSU and Trust forums.
  • Provide a visible approachable presence in both community and acute clinical areas to ensure any workforce issues are dealt with swiftly.

Personal/Professional Development

  • Identify personal development needs with the safer staffing lead nurse and complete and implement a personal development plan.
  • Participate in one-to-one meetings, clinical supervision and act as a clinical supervisor as required.
