We have opportunities for previously NMC Registered Nurses who would like to undertake a Return to Practice nursing course and then resume your career as a Band 5 registered nurse.
We work closely with our partner at The University of Brighton to offer and support NMC re-registration through the completion of a Return to Practice (RTP) course. The next course date is February 2025. The University of Brighton's Return to Practice (RTP) programme is fully online enabling study from the comfort of your own home with no costly or time-consuming commute.
Main duties of the job
The placement Whittington Health offer is a voluntary pathway which will allow you to complete the required placement hours on a non-paid voluntary basis at your chosen hours per week. All DBS and occupational health checks for this route will be handled by the University of Brighton.
Return to Practice is supported by NHS England, applicants who reside in England are not required to pay any fees. There is a bursary of £1,000 which is payable by the Education provider, split across two payments.
After completing the course successfully, you will be supported in applying for a position as a band 5 registered nurse. If you are successful at obtaining a band 5 position you will be enrolled on our accredited 12-month preceptorship programme.

MAIN DUTIES
- Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, families and carers in planning and delivering compassionate care
- Develop and maintain appropriate communication with members of the multidisciplinary team
- Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation (APIE) of individual programmes of care for patients using an appropriate nursing model
- Provide and deliver a high standard of comprehensive skilled and evidence-based nursing care recognising and meeting the specific needs of the patients
- Be able to prioritise their own workload
- Support and empower patients, carers, and their families to identify and achieve their health and well-being goals.
- Carry out clinical observations on patients, recognising, recording, and reporting abnormalities and changes in patients condition to a registered practitioner
- Assist in the recording of fluid balance, reporting discrepancies to a registered practitioner
- Assist with all aspects of personal hygiene for the patient
- Assist in ensuring patients nutritional needs are met
- Assist in planning and implementing methods of rehabilitation for patients and their carers
- Safely dispose of equipment, post procedure, restocking where appropriate
- Assist in the safe moving and handling of patients utilising appropriate equipment
- Utilise early warning score indicators (e.g., NEWS) to recognise any patient deterioration/sudden change in condition, reporting immediately to a registered practitioner
- Prepare and undertake interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients needs
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records that ensure safety and continuity of patient care.
