Job summary

This new post is an exciting opportunity for a Reporting Radiographer who is also interested in quality, governance and service improvement.

This role combines clinical reporting duties with administrative responsibilities to ensure the running of a safe and responsive Imaging service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a highly motivated and experienced individual with a commitment to quality and service improvement. The post holder will have a broad knowledge and understanding of the imaging service requirements of an acute hospital and tertiary clinical services. They will demonstrate the core values of Whittington Health NHS Trust, innovation, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and equity.

They will have proven strengths in leadership, and the ability to innovate and create new ideas to enhance staff engagement and policy implementation.

The post holder will take an active & positive role in future developments in the imaging department, taking into account the requirements of Trust clinicians, external commissioners and changes to government targets. In particular, the post-holder will assist in the introduction 'hot reporting' and radiographer led discharge if/when they are implemented.

A positive professional attitude in dealing with enquiries from staff, patients and relatives is expected at all times, as is the ability to promote a collaborative team working environment.

The post holder will liaise closely with the whole Imaging team as well as the wider Trust to ensure services are streamlined, communication is open and patient care is prioritised. They will treat all individuals with respect and courtesy and ensure that all communications: verbal, written and electronic promote an open clear exchange of information.

MAIN DUTIES

Main knowledge and skills:

  • Hold a degree level qualification or equivalent in Diagnostic Radiography with a minimum Postgraduate Certificate in Image Interpretation.
  • Holds updated HCPC registration and have proven autonomous reporting experience within the last year.
  • Have proven evidence of recent accuracy audit levels.
  • Undertake Musculoskeletal (MSK) and/or chest reporting autonomously including but not exclusive to ED referrals, GP referrals, in-patients, and minor injury units.
  • Provide accurate, appropriate, clear and concise autonomous reports.
  • Offer verbal reports and advice on further imaging to referrers as and when required acting as an ambassador for the Department.
  • Work clinically in imaging acquisition within the department where the need arises.
  • Undertake duties appropriate to a Band 7 in terms of supervision, decision making, organisation and service development.
  • Show knowledge and provide evidence of participation in the 4 tiers of Advanced Practice.
  • Be active and consistent in own and others audit activity and peer review systems.
  • Be involved in the departments Clinical Governance activities and attend meetings as and when appropriate.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Undertake timely formal reporting of Musculoskeletal (MSK) and/or Chest Radiographs.
  • Ensure that practice is carried out in accordance with department policies and protocols.
  • Offer clinical and specialist advice/support to other Radiology staff members and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Work as an expert in the field of reporting, offering teaching and shadowing sessions as required.
  • Work clinically in Image acquisition as and when required depending on clinical need and depending on the service requirements.
  • Act with a high standard of professional accountability in all aspects of clinical work, including radiographic duties.
  • To participate in a 7/7 hot reporting and/or radiographer led discharge service if/when embedded. This may include evenings and weekends on a roster system.
  • Comply with all Information Governance mandatory legislation, especially in regard to home working and in accordance with SOPs

Leadership and communication

  • Assist departmental leads and Operational Managers where appropriate taking responsibility for day-to-day operational matters and working closely with other modality leads.
  • Help to ensure service provision is delivered to a consistently high standard, supervising junior staff to ensure high level of patient care.
  • Participate in staff appraisal system as a line manager in accordance with Trust protocols.
  • To attend and participate in department staff meetings and service development and operational projects.
  • To encourage and maintain a good working relationship with all other departments and provide an efficient and effective service to all users and patients.
  • To have responsibility for the abnormality detection training of radiographers in your specialist area of clinical practice

  • Development of SOPs that complement QSI accreditation.
  • Incident investigation and escalation
