The Whittington Health Infection Pharmacy team has rapidly grown over the past 2 years. The vaccination pharmacy team consists of a Band 8a and 7 (this post). They will work alongside a Band 8a Infection & OPAT pharmacist and a rotational Band 7. The Lead Pharmacist-Antimicrobials provides the overarching support to the team. We are an innovative team, always looking to push the boundaries of clinical pharmacy, advanced practice and antimicrobial stewardship.
This post will help deliver the COVID-19 and Flu vaccination programmes within the secondary care and community services. You will support the Senior Pharmacist - Vaccination with strategic, clinical, and operational input into the staff and patient vaccination programme and work collaboratively with the North Central London team in optimising vaccination uptake.This is an exciting opportunity to grow leadership skills, work autonomously and develop your clinical skills within a supportive and encouraging environment. The role will provide great operational insight into the inner workings of developing NHS services in response to disease outbreaks or to manage seasonal infection transmission risk.

- To support the development and delivery of the pharmacy related aspects of the Whittington Health NHS Trust COVID and influenza vaccination programmes.
- To provide a clinical pharmacy service to the Whittington Health NHS Trust COVID and influenza vaccination programme.
- To deputise for the Senior Pharmacist Vaccination and contribute at relevant local and regional COVID and influenza vaccine meetings, when appropriate.
- To support the interpretation and implementation of any national or regional requirements for the safe delivery of the vaccination programmes and handling of any associated COVID and influenza vaccines. This will include but is not limited to supporting the development/implementation of:
- Legal or clinical documentation related to the provision of the COVID and influenza vaccination programme (for example, Patient Consent Forms, Written Instructions, Patient Specific Directions, Patient Group Direction, National Protocols)
- Additional documentation that is required by NHS England / Improvement
- Patient information leaflets / supporting documents for healthcare professionals relating to any vaccine specific requirements (i.e. management of allergies)
- Alerts issued by national bodies, such as the MHRA or DoH.
- To work closely with the wider team to ensure appropriate use, supply and storage of the COVID and influenza vaccine, and support operational and logistical aspects of the programme when necessary. This will apply to both clinics being held on site and in the community vaccination hubs, working closely with members of the public.
- To manage and mitigate any risks associated with the delivery of the vaccination programme.
- To undertake intramuscular administration of COVID and influenza vaccines.
- To support and train staff to be confident in handling COVID and influenza vaccines.
- To appropriately assess the competency requirements for staff involved in the delivery of the COVID and influenza vaccination programme and to provide any ongoing education and training around these aspects, when required.
- To work closely with the Pharmacy Procurement Lead to maintain adequate stock of vaccines for the COVID and influenza vaccination programme.
