Head of Finance

The Head of Finance will act as a Trust wide expert leading on the development and implementation of organisation wide financial improvements and efficiencies to support the Emergency and Integrated Medicine (EIM) and Surgery and Cancer Divisions. The post holder will be responsible for business partnering with the ICSU, accountable for all financial management and decision support for these teams.

Responsible as a Trust leading financial expert for the provision of financial services across the nominated ICSU's. Responsible for leading a financial management team, delivering professional financial support that meets the needs of the Trust. About us

The finance team at the Whittington are now recruiting to this exciting role which is integral to the success of the organisation. As a key member of the senior team, you will lead a team to provide financial management support to Intergrated Clinical Service Units.

You will be responsible for enhancing relationships between financial management and other departments and will require active engagement with clinical and non-clinical teams in financial performance management, cost improvement development and ensuring that the financial planning process is sound. You will advise on highly complex issues and provide financial and business planning advice.

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES

Responsible as a Trust leading financial expert for the provision of financial services across the nominated ICSUs. Responsible for leading a financial management team, delivering professional financial support that meets the needs of the Trust. To ensure that the team delivers a full financial service to include:

  • Financial leadership
  • Analytical support
  • Financial commercial acumen
  • Full business suite financial reporting
  • Clear presentation of financial and business intelligence to a ICSUs to support the delivery of an approved financial plan
  • Ensuring proper financial control is maintained and value for money achieved.

Responsible for ensuring that the ICSUs financial direction is robust and fit for purpose. To ensure that as a financial expert, you manage and constructively and positively challenge all aspects of the ICSUs financial and business performance.

The post will attend the ICSU Boards and Performance Review meetings and will make a positive contribution to debates on service provision and ICSUs priorities.

Responsible for the provision of financial leadership and guidance in delivering Trust wide programmes concerned with improved productivity, quality and efficiency programmes.

To work with the Information Team and Financial Planning and Development teams to develop and maintain a suite of business intelligence applications and undertake appropriate bench-marking analysis to inform both Directorate and Trust wide performance.

Works closely with HR colleagues to ensure that the trusts system of establishment control is adhered to, and that the financial position and planning models accurately reflect the same information as ESR. Ensures that annual budgets and financial plans reflect ICSU workforce plans.

Identifies and highlights quickly and appropriately any evidence of divergence from financial plans, targets or forecasts in the BU and works with budget holders to develop mitigations to return performance in line.

To deputise for the Assistant Director of Finance - Financial Management and other Heads of Finance as and when required.

Responsible as a leading expert for delivery of a financial management service that complies with statutory requirements, Accountable to the Operational Director of Finance for ICSU adherence to Trust financial policies and procedures and statutory requirements.

Ensure the smooth and efficient running of the department including recruitment, appraisal, training, discipline and delegation as appropriate
